There is a plethora of outdoor activities within minutes of the barn. All of the activities below are amazing during the warmer months but don’t underestimate a stroll on the beach or a hike through a snow covered state park during the colder winter months. The barn is located along the CT River close by to marinas, public access and launch points. Kayaks can be rented at the CT River Museum in town.
BIKING
There are beautiful riverside roads and rolling hills around the area. Peek out the front door and you are bound to see pelotons of bikers speeding by along Saybrook Road in the morning. We have a shed with a lock that your bikes can be stored in safely if you are traveling with them (the shed will comfortably hold 2 bicycles). We have three recommended biking routes:
154 through Essex Village and down River Road (no car necessary)

Celebrating its 175th season, Lake Compounce is the Premier Family Theme Park & Water Park in New England and the oldest continuously operating amusement park in North America. Located just 45 minutes from the barn.
SKIING
